An absolutely gorgeous and unique chatelaine?purse from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in solid 14kt yellow gold, this ornate coin purse features a beautiful frame that holds a hand wrought mesh bag. The frame?displays a lovely etched floral design that adorns one side, and a?smoothly?polished surface on?the other. The?mesh is created using delicate interlocking round links and?gives the appearance of a fantastic chainmail design. The purse opens from the top with a kiss clasp featuring two?smoothly polished beaded accents, one capped with a?gorgeous rich blue sapphire cabochon.?Finishing the design is a lovely interlocking link chain attached to either end of the frame, and stamped inside of the frame is a "14K" gold?purity mark. Given the size of the purse, it likely would have been originally attached to a chatelaine (French for "chain"), on?a belt worn by women and men for carrying keys, thimble and/or sewing kit, etc. It's a fabulous and special?piece from the Victorian?period and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!?
